Vocal Effects Like Future
« on: May 18, 2013, 08:21:33 PM »
What kind of effect are they using on Future's voice in the song Karate Chop? It sounds like some crazy autotune on crack kinda effect. Almost hard to understand what he's saying but it sounds pretty sweet still. It's like they use autotune and then cut the end of each word off slightly or something, I'm not sure. Anyone know how they achieve this effect?

Here's the song:

It sounds like it's pretty close to what you were thinking. Almost sounds like there's a noise gate with the threshold set too high and cutting off parts of the words n sounding real unnatural (the autotune / vocoder type of stuff going on doesn't help make the lyrics comprehensible either)..OFC that's what they were going for - it fits the song - but I don't think it'd work too good w/ most tracks. Are you trying to replicate that sound or just curious how they achieved it?

There's definitely some auto-tune going on there, I could be some really good volume swelling work. I think that and some low re-verb. It's pretty cool I have to say.

Lol I don't think that's even a gate causing the cut off, I think he's just not pronouncing entire words >D

I agree with the above answers. That is definitely auto tune and sound clipping. I don't think it fits the song very well at all. I think it actually sounds off putting and doesn't make sense with the song. I think the sound is interesting through and actually might sound better in another track.
