Beats By Dre Headphones Review
« on: April 07, 2013, 08:30:58 PM »
Everyone knows about beats by dre, but the part I've been interested in is the "studio" version, and to an extent how they're marketed as some kind of music production headphone. Couldn't be farther from the truth. If you don't want to read the full review, basically they are awful for monitoring mixes/tracks and at best some overpriced headphones.

BEATS is decent for listening to music from I-pod, MP3, or smart phone at best. Definitely not good for making music. The prices are insane as well. I prefer good old fashioned ear buds for listening to my handheld devices though. For making music, the best brand of head phones are Behringer or AKG.

I cannot agree more with the article. If they put half the money into the actual product that was put into marketing it and branding it then it might be worth the price. Anyone attempting to mix or produce music with Beats By Dre headphones doesn't know what they're doing, or at least doesn't care how their mixes transfer to other audio systems/speakers.

Well they never differentiate between Beats headphones for music listeners or DJ's. And Beats for people who make or produce music. That's the problem. They just throw them out there as the best new, mainstream headphones to hit the market. Oh and then, by the way...Dr. Dre one of the greatest rappers of all time endorses them so. That's when folks just run out and get them. Unaware of how and where they should be used.

Great for just enjoying music! Horrible for mixing it. Some cheaper better for the job headphones i would recommend are the Sennheiser Hd280s, very defined.

I was thinking about getting one of these headphones and of course I thought it made a lot more sense to get some research in as these things do cost a pretty penny. Much to my surprise, they were getting some terrible reviews and I just thought with all the hype surrounding them they would be of excellent quality. Thinking to myself now that maybe I should heed the warning and get something else.

For the money you would spend on beats you can buy headphones that are 10x better, Beats by Dre don't care about audio just looks that's why so many kids have them

Thanks for that! I think people just generally use them as a fashion accessory anyway and they don't actually sound that good.

Well, I heard some good things about the headphones but more from people who I wouldn't consider as audiophiles. So it's very interesting to hear a opinion of someone who has some better knowledge.

I see people wearing these a lot, mostly teenagers that wouldn't know Apple earbuds from studio headphones. If it makes them happy, then they can have them, but for much less you can get so much more in terms of audio quality, as everyone else has said before me. The only reason I would get them is because they look pretty good, but that's not worth it if they aren't too great in terms of quality for the money.

I think you are bringing up a good point - I'm pretty sure the visual aspect is actually what sells them, besides the crazy marketing behind it lol. It's like a cool hat or something rather than dope headphones o.O

I would never recommend beats to somebody. They are garbage compared to other headphones you can get at that price range. Even if you wanted that much bass, you could get it for half the price. Even if they are sexy, you buy headphones to listen to music, right? The sound is all that matters, and if portability is a problem, there's plenty of decent ear buds out there to get. I have/recommend NuForce NE-700x's and Audio Technica ATH-m50's.

Yeah Audio Technica ATH-m50's are clean, one of the better headphones n that price range. Sony MDR's too for half the price
