What kind of music were you raised on?
« on: April 05, 2015, 08:42:35 PM »
My mom raised me on the 80's! My brothers got raised on Christian music, and my sister on country. What about you guys?

I wasn't really raised on music personally. I had the internet at a pretty young age, so I listened to what I wanted.

I would say the closest thing I was raised on would be metal. My dad was a big metal guy. Pantera, Hair bands, Dream Theater, etc..

I guess at a really young age I loved Kiss and Styx (which is weird because I don't like either now) so probably that.

I was raised on an OPM song where most of them is a revised love song. I just love listening to that kind song makes me fall in love over and over again. Reminds me of the teenage time where I was able to express my feeling through listening musics.

I grew up hearing the all time great 90's alternative rock music. The music back then used to be so simple yet the lyrics had a deep meaning and people can really relate to the songs. But regardless of what music today has become, I still respect all the different genres and artist for their contribution to music today.  8) 8) 8) 8)

I was raised on the old school music from my parents era. I grew up on Michael Jackson, The Funkadelics, and The Isley Brothers. These weren't the only old school artist there were many more. The music back then had true meaning and soul. Todays music tries to imitate the foundation laid, but it doesn't truly come close.

Oldies. And I mean OLDIES. I would use my grandmothers record player to play records. It was the best place to discover jazz. I loved that thing. She had an interesting collection of records. It seemed like she entertained often based on what was there.

It was a lot of 90s and 2000s pop songs for me. I remember just waking up every Saturday morning and turning on the top 40 countdown on TV while eating breakfast, lol.

I was raised on 80's and 90's music and I really loved it. There were lots of happy memories listening to songs from the 80's and 90's. Sometimes I go on YouTube today to look at music videos from those times. Michael Jackson is one of my favorites of all time plus there are more singers I like too

My parents didn't raise me on a certain type of music. I had the radio, CDs, and cassette tapes to listen to what I want. That being said, the only type of music my father played was opera. My mom played orchestral or classical music. I love both of those genres, for sure, but I don't think they defined my taste in music. Now, I listen to more indie stuff, and more EDM.

I grew up with a variety of classic rock, hip hop, the occasional alternative rock band, and 90s divas. I suppose it set me up to have eclectic tastes for the rest of my life. I’m forever grateful for that. I mean, sure, in real life I might not readily admit I loved all those 90s divas, but I definitely still bust out some of their songs when I need a totally self-indulgent shower singing session. Nothing like it when I’m in a certain mood.

Whatever was on the radio, really. Mom tried to show me some of the music she liked, but I never got into it (I did come to appreciate a lot of the stuff since then, of course). So I just listened to whatever I liked on the radio/TV, and whatever I could get a hold of back then, since the net wasn't really a viable place to get music.

I was raised on older music. Like the younger Michael Jackson.  Also like Joe, Jon B, boys to men, New Edition etc.

Also a lot of soul music and dance jams. My parents always had music playing in the house. Then later on we stated listening to Backstreet boys, Nsync, and Brittney spears.  So a lot of different genres.  I'm African-American but my parents played everything from tupac to Queen. So we grew up with an abundance of music.
