Favorite Microphone Under $500?
« on: April 07, 2013, 08:18:49 PM »
What's your favorite microphone that's under $500?

My choice goes to the Electrovoice-RE20 hands down. I love the way it sounds, handles proximity well and a great frequency response for a dynamic mic.

I'd say the CAD E100S, the Roland RD-700GX, and the Shure Beta 58 would all be good choices. I am not sure how your voice would sound on all three of those but it depends because voices and feedback varies. But if you're looking at pricing as the singular issue here, those are three that should cost you $500 or less. Depending on where you shop.

I own a SE Electronics SE2200T, and its awesome. The recording quality is perfect for me, and I've had no problems with it.

I bought one of those for my 2nd cousin as a birthday gift. She says it's pretty awesome. Problem was though, after she got one. I got 6 more requests for one from my other cousins and one Aunt who likes to do music also. I can't of course afford for everyone so, I'll have to improvise. :o

I bought mine for $120 and it's an M-Audio USB Condenser mic. It's really cool and functional and it does help me produce the crisp vocals that I want. It's not expensive too!

My favorite is the Blue Baby Bottle Microphone. This is small and elegant. The quality is really high class. It is lightweight and sturdy. Everyone who records likes this mic as well. It costs about $380. The best part about it is the sound is always clear without any static. Definitely a great investment and long lasting as well.

Blue has been a really unique company with unique designs. They really stand out from other microphone producers with exotic product looks and names. From what I've read almost all Blue Microphones utilize class-A capsules, and all the reviews seem good. For some reason I still haven't picked one up yet, maybe I might pick up some of their mics for test/reviews soon if I get some spare time.

I have to also recommend the Blue Baby Bottle! The Blue Spark is a good mic too, i skipped the Blue Bird but i have to assume that would be just as good.

I use an AKG Perception 220, never had a problem with it...

It's up to the atmosphere around the mic and the mixing though, that can alleviate a lot of a cheaper microphones deficiencies...
