How to promote yourself
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:36:01 AM »
Without a record label or management to help you with their finances it is not easy to market yourself. You need to get onto every single social network that there is, you need to get yourself to every festival that you can and most importantly you need to build up a fanbase first, so that they can follow you, tell their friends and buy your music.
Keeping in touch with the public is a good idea and a must for those who are wanting to make it in the business and you have to get your name out there so people hear it everywhere. Selling yourself is part of selling the music.

I agree and say the best thing to do is network as much you can with people involved in your local music scene.  Depending on where you live, DIY venues and shows are a great way to start putting yourself out there.  Most of the DIY venues I've been to in Los Angeles have a great receptive atmosphere and they don't pull any of that "you have to sell X number of tickets to play" stuff.  Plus, at a DIY venue, a lot of the people there will be involved in music, either as a consumer or fellow producer of it.
